Art Education Philosophy

Art is supposed to be enjoyed. Likewise, art education should also be enjoyable. As art teachers we are bringing to the table an awesome and desirable world. The knowledge hidden in art can inspire and support other knowledge. We have the ability, and the responsibility, to incorporate our history, our future, our joy, our sadness...everything, all through the same category; Art. We will teach math through art. We will teach about religion through art. Students will learn about how humans have evolved and how art progressed to what it is today. They will learn new, and many, techniques to create a piece of art. From this knowledge they will branch in directions they had never known before to create works that have not been done. They will try new things and will from this learn to create the next even more advanced piece. Students will learn the value and importance of their work by displaying it. They will be involved in projects with other students learning how to work with other people to get a final solution. Something that will have to be learned if they want to be artists in the real world. In the classroom the students will acquire the knowledge, skills, and ability to express their art in the real world.
